SUMMER SCIENCE SCHOOL

The Waquoit Bay Reserve Foundation sponsors a Science SchoolPhoto of students in the Power Rangers Program for students entering grades 2-9 in July and August. Each session is one week and children are permitted to attend one session.

2012 Science School Description and registration

Bayside Buddies - Half day sessions. Children in grades 2-3 will get wet, muddy and inspired while exploring the habitats and wildlife around Waquoit Bay through games, crafts and scientific investigations

Estuary Adventures - Full day sessions. Children in grades 4-6 will become young scientists using a variety of equipment, from crab traps to salinity meters to sample the marshes, creeks and bay, discovering an ocean of adventure along the way.

Eco-Design Workshop – Renewable Energy Program. Full day session. Children in grades 5 -7 will participate in activities that encourage team work and problem solving while exploring renewable energy concepts. They design and create take-home projects, explore the bay and use scientific equipment to learn more about wind, water and solar resources and how human activities affect our environment.

Woman in Science Program
Young women in grades 7-9 will be inspired and supported from WBNERR staff while building confidence through activities relating to scientific research, marine biology, and ecology. An overnight camping trip fosters peer relationships as girls leave cell phones behind and face the challenges of setting up shelter, cooking and exploring the island at night.
