Geographic Information System (GIS) technology is utilized to support Research, Education, and Stewardship activities at the Reserve. GIS is a powerful tool to gather, organize and disseminate spatial information. Using GIS tools including GPS units, ArcGIS software, and peripheral hardware like plotters and scanners, we produce maps, computer programs for analysis, and data that aids our efforts to learn about and protect the dynamic environment of the Reserve and surrounding coastal environments.
Recent GIS projects include, habitat mapping, endangered species monitoring, land acquisition strategies, and shoreline change.
