Using Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRBs) to Address Nitrogen Pollution

Description:

The 208 (Area wide Water Quality Management Plan) for Cape Cod outlines a suite of innovative and non-traditional nitrogen management strategies that have promise for use in the region to help solve our nitrogen problem and restore water quality in coastal embayments. Using permeable reactive barriers which are designed to intercept nitrogen enriched groundwater is one such option.  This workshop will share findings and lessons from PRB research studies and pilot projects, examine siting considerations, and provide a forum for attendees to get to know PRBs and their capabilities.

Target audience: local officials, municipal board members (e.g. wastewater committees), engineers, consultants, non-governmental organizations, and watershed groups that are working on nitrogen loading/wastewater/water quality.
